Bread, milk, butter, tea bags…oh and don’t forget to pick up your driving licence
I read with some amazement on Sky News that the government are planning to close driving test centres and let the whole process of examining people’s suitability to drive be put in the hands of independent contractors.
They have indicated that tests could take place at supermarkets. Where is all this going to end? With the advent of Tesco law and Tesco driving test examiners and the spread of Tesco into every facet of public life why do we not just let Sir Terry Lehey take over the government itself and put David Cameron and Nick Clegg out of the firing line for the government’s big society?
If we allow the spread of Tesco into areas such as driving test and anything else the government may think of David Cameron will have created the big society except that it will be at the mercy of Tesco’s Board of Directors.
What will happen next? Will Tesco provide a two for one driving licence so that only one person takes the test but two can drive or will Morrison’s undercut the rigours of the test simply to get more people through to the Morrions test centre. May be we could end up with a dumbing down of the whole driving test examination so that everyone can drive provided they can simply afford the fees charged by Tesco, Morrisons and all the others.
